WHY WE EXIST.
Literacy is not charity. It is strategy.
Founded in July 2018, Asaba Literacy and Reading Club was built on one conviction: reading is not a luxury – it is the foundational infrastructure of human development. A society that reads thinks critically, leads responsibly, and builds sustainably.
Between 2019 and 2025, our structured programs improved reading competency by 50% among more than 1,200 youths, measured through formal baseline and endline reading assessments conducted in partner schools and community learning groups.
We do not run events. We run interventions. Every program ALRC delivers is designed with defined learning objectives, participant tracking, and documented outcomes – because impact must be measurable to be credible.

A Note From Our Founder
In 2018, I watched young people in Asaba struggle – not from lack of intelligence, but from lack of access to books, reading guidance, and a culture that valued learning. I started ALRC because I believed one reading circle could change that. Seven years later, it has.
ALRC is not a program. It is a movement built by people who believe that a child who reads today becomes a leader tomorrow. Every session we run, every book we place in a young person’s hand, and every community we enter is a deliberate act of investment in Nigeria’s future.
